I live in NYC. If there’s anything you need—supplies, a meal, advil, return airfare upgrade(not kidding—you deserve it), lemme know. I can get to Southern District in a trice.
Oh this is great news! One that he’s testifying, but even better you’ll be there to cover it in person!
I wonder to help cover your costs if you could work out a one off pledge type thing where we put up an amount per “umm” or “like” in his testimony. Say like a cent per umm (I imagine they’re will be a lot!), or a sweepstake on the total amount. Does the court room transcribe umms and likes?
This is a round about way to say I’d be willing to contribute a one off on top of my subscription to help support you on this venture.
Doubtless SBF believes he knows better than his lawyers because none of them has ever built a successful multi-billion-dollar enterprise… and it’s yet to dawn on him that, well, neither has he.
There has been a civil trial in my own country with lesser, though still substantial, stakes.. but some remarkable similarities between the protagonists. In that case we kept wondering when the defence would turn up.. where was the strategy.. why were the lawyers appearing to do such a bad job.. but it made perfect sense when you knew the person instructing them, how he perceives himself, and how he conducts himself. His own testimony, and that of the people loyal to him, was a train wreck.
Is there really a downside? If his testimony hurts his case, the worst that can happen is he gets convicted, something that seems quite likely already.
On the upside, if he convinces just one juror there's reasonable doubt, that's a hung jury, and a retrial having already seen all the prosecution evidence.
I mean, yes, it sounds really stupid to put your self incriminating client on the stand but, at this point, what do they have to lose?
If you want to do an impromptu meet and greet with the locals, I recommend the weird booze kiosk in the plaza between the federal courthouse and the Manhattan Municipal Building.
Thanks for taking this trip on behalf of your audience... Although I guess this will have substantial entertainment value as well. What are the chances you'll be able to sit directly in the court room? Anyway, enjoy!
There is literally no other person I would rather be in the room during this than you (Ok, equal level, Ed Zitron, because he is sweary) and I am glad you will be chronicling this for us.
Drop your Venmo and I will send you a few bucks to help defray your expenses. You are doing an essential good.
Impressed you managed to deliver the line "Bankman-Fried may well believe that he’s got such a convincing story that he’ll have the jury delivering a “not guilty” verdict by the end of his testimony" without corpsing on the audio
Sam Bankman-Fried will testify, and I'll be there
You see it's like a box that you put money into then it has value so other people start putting money onto the box
Godspeed Molly! You note they don't allow electronics; for your sake I do hope they allow popcorn!

This is genuinely exciting! Love that you'll be there to witness the spectacle in person. Looking forward to your write-up.
Oh hell yes. I'm not surprised he's testifying and I'm excited you'll be there to report on it.
Side note: I believe you had ~2 minutes of silence at the end of the programming note. Better than the 6 that one time? Love the audio!
God if I still smoked I would light one up right now in satisfaction.
Cannot wait for this.

This is wild, I hope you get in.

I really didn’t think he would testify and I voted “no” in your last poll. I’m glad to have been wrong. 🍿
